1929-2016 John P. Tafoya, age 87, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He loved his garden, yard work, fishing, and hunting. John retired from JR Hale construction. He was a proud veteran of World War II “He held his head to Jesus and he stood for Uncle Sam.” John was a very patient man, the last few days he talked to his brothers, sisters, and friends ready to reunite, “He was proud of what he had, said his greatest contribution is the ones you leave behind. Raised on the ways of gentle kindness, a small town southern man.” He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Evangelista Tafoya; sisters, Lala Beck, Erlinda Griego, and Mercy Ellis; brothers, Martin, Pete, Jesus, and Pillar Tafoya. John is survived by his Loving wife of 66 years, Lorina Tafoya; sons, Ray, Michael and wife, Debbie, John Jr. and wife, Cindy, Leroy, and Stanly Tafoya; daughter, Eileen Reed; special granddaughter and caretaker, Jennifer Gonzales and husband, Jimmy; and sister, Angie Jone. He is also survived by many Loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, on Saturday, August 20, 2016. A Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m., and a funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Clemente Catholic Cemetery.
